Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea is passed on during sex. It infects the genitals, urethra (wee tube) rectum (bum) and throat of men and women. Older people may refer to this infection as 'The Clap'.

Gonorrhoea is the second most common sexually transmitted infection in the UK and the number of cases is rising every year. Young men aged 20-24 years and women between the ages of 16 and 19 are most commonly affected. Symptoms/signs of infection include:
- Unusual thin/watery yellow or green discharge
- Painful when peeing
- Irritation and/or discharge from the anus (bum)
- Pain or tenderness in the testicles
- Lower abdominal pain
Treatment
This infection can be easily treated with Antibiotic tablets. If left untreated gonorrhoea can infect and damage reproductive organs in men and women.
