SHOWT Card Scheme

SHOWT condom card scheme is a confidential, free service where young people aged between 14-25 yrs can access free condoms.

There are now over 3,500 young people registered on the scheme throughout Sunderland, and this number continues to grow.

We have over 40 outlets across the city including community setting.

The Teenage pregnancy team aim to reduce unplanned teenage pregnancy in Sunderland. The team consists of seven people, who each have a specific role. This includes working with young people aged between 14-25 years, male and female.

They link with community based initiatives and provide support to schools as well as youth & community settings.

All condoms supplied carry the British Standard Institute Kitemark and/or the European CE Mark.

This means that the condoms have been properly tested. You should always check the expiry date/use by date on the packet.

Remember - Using condoms can help protect against:

  • Sexually Transmitted Disease
  • Pregnancy

Emergency Contraception

Emergency contraception is available up to three days after unprotected sex.

Remember if you have had unprotected sex or have been put at risk of pregnancy you can talk to a nurse in the young peoples contraceptives clinics or at some chemists (it is most effective the earlier you take it).
